The problem with expecting

I have been warned many times not to set myself up for failure by expecting too much. Whether its the sale of a new book, or a first date I think we can all agree that failure in certain situations is inevitable if you expect the much, and not the unexpected.

Some would argue that positivity plays a big role in how these situations pan out. Some believe that positivity breeds positivity and vica versa. I can’t then help but wonder how much is too much or if it’s not then better to go into life with zero expectations at all. If you are positive all the time,  let’s say by believing you going to win at games of chance, aren’t you just setting yourself up for failure anyway? To me this just leads to the, don’t worry, I will get it next week saga which is also not necessarily good financially.

So what then is the alternative? Truth is I don’t believe there is anyone who can claim perfection over handling expectations, positivity or negativity yet. After all we are human, and being flawed is in our nature.

What I do know is that life has a funny way of surprising us when we expect or when we believe just a little bit. Sometimes it takes losing faith completely to see the good in a situation.

In the end it’s about never giving up, always giving when you are able, even if that giving is just two minutes of your time. It is then that life surprises you, that expecting becomes acceptance, and positivity part of your nature.

Only then can we claim perfection, when the world is free.

Poets Pen: The Traveller

Road less traveled

You’re the one I leave behind

To the north, I turn my face

Feeling less and less human

And more out of place

Road less traveled

You’re the one I dare not walk

For in my heart, what would I find

Feeling more and more alone

And less and less blessed

Road less traveled

You’re the one I need to face

For it is only on here I will find a place

Feeling less and less trapped

And more free in space.

Road less traveled

You’re the one that I will take

It is scary and all so new

To stumble more and more

But to know I’m not alone

Road less traveled

You were never the concern

I realize that now

Courage I needed so much more

To open my heart to the unknown

Poets Pen: Eyes of the Snake

On deaf ears, your presence falls

Blinded by the chaos

Confined to the madness of these walls

On sand you slither as on hands and knees I crawl

Confused by your beauty

And the horrors of your charm

On unfertile ground, we meet eye to eye

locked in a deathly stare

You have a wicked smile

And eyes of gold that hypnotize

Rising like the sun you do

Ready to strike

To deal the final blow

Thing is snake so wild

You that hide in the plainest of sight

Blinded I am no more

And scared of you I have never been

Thing is snake so wild

With your eyes of gold that hypnotize

Did you not know

Things that hide

Are often the easiest to find

So strike if you must

Be sure to do it hard

Because the next time we meet

It will be you lying beneath my feet.
