Mask of Clay

The mask

Peeling from my face

removing the clay piece by piece

is thrown to the floor

there my alter ego lies

The face in truth

carries the years of plenty

and the suffering unknown to many

Another tablet

Another application

And I smile

For now the mask hides

What the world does not see

Killed by medication

until death’s door calls to me.
